The Ritter administration filled two key water posts this week, appointing Dick Wolfe as state engineer, the state's top water regulator, and Jennifer Gimbel as director of the Colorado Water Conservation Board, the state's primary water policy making body.

The appointments come as Colorado faces looming water shortages and is struggling to determine how best to protect rivers and streams while covering future water needs.

"Dick Wolfe and Jennifer Gimbel will play central roles in Colorado's water future," said Harris Sherman, director of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, which houses the water resources division and water conservation board.

Wolfe has undergraduate and master's degrees from Colorado State University. As state engineer, he will lead the Division of Water Resources, where he has served for 14 years.

Jennifer Gimbel served in the Colorado Attorney General's office for 10 years before joining the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in 2001. Gimbel graduated from the University of Wyoming Law School, where she also received a bachelor's degree. She earned a master's degree in mathematics from the University of Delaware.
