Cherry Creek High senior quarterback Jack Elway, son of Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, has committed to play football at Arizona State, the Rocky Mountain News learned early Saturday.
Arizona State (7-0) is ranked No. 8 in the Bowl Championship Series standings. Jack Elway visited the campus last weekend.
Elway threw four touchdown passes in the Bruins' 37-14 victory over Eaglecrest on Friday at Stutler Bowl. For the season he has completed 112 of 197 passes for 1,677 yards, with 21 touchdowns and only three interceptions.
Elway is following his family's path into the Pac-10. His father was an all-America at Stanford. His late grandfather, Jack. Sr., was head coach at Stanford (1984-88).
Current Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson was an assistant under Jack Elway Sr. at San Jose State (1979-81). The Sun Devils' recruiting coordinator, Matt Lubick, is son of Colorado State coach Sonny Lubick. The elder Lubick worked with Jack Elway Sr. at Stanford and is a close friend of the family.
