The Denver wireless network Ricochet has changed hands again.

Civitas Wireless Solutions, a new company founded by Ricochet president Judi Evans, has bought the network from California-based Terabeam Inc.

The Denver Ricochet wireless network has about 6,000 users. Evans said in a statement that she plans to expand services, such as under the recently-announced agreement with the city and county to provide municipal Wi-Fi services.

Ricochet enjoyed an almost cult following before it collapsed financially in 2001. It was sold at bankruptcy to Denver-based Aerie Networks, which resumed services in the summer of 2002 and expanded to San Diego.

Its most recent owner has been Terabeam, a broadband wireless equipment provider.

"It was really an issue of concentration and focus for us," said David Renauld, Terabeam vice president, of the decision to sell the Denver wireless network. "We think Ricochet has some exciting potential, but on a quarterly basis it was just 3 to 5 percent of our revenue."

In addition to selling the Denver network, the decision was made to shut down the San Diego network, Renauld said.
