IPod system heats up tunes under the cabinet

Under Kitchen Cabinet iPod & Shuffle Stereo Player with FM/TV/Weather Band and Remote Control

• What it is: The lengthy name leaves nothing to the imagination. Unlike most iPod speaker systems, designed to sit on a flat surface, iHome's player tucks under the kitchen cabinet to provide cooking tunes with no less toaster space.

• Pluses: Its extra features are particularly well-chosen for the kitchen space. The TV band gives you audio from local broadcast channels, so you can hear the nightly news without finding space for a kitchen television set.

• Minuses: Most iPod speaker systems are pretty close to plug-and-play, but be prepared to get out some hardware and start drilling. Installation instructions require boring holes in the bottom of your cabinets.

• Price: $149.99

iGroove speaker system

• What it is: A higher-end speaker system by Klipsch for your iPod that also charges the device when you're not listening. Audiophiles take note: The unit has dual 2.5-inch fiber-composite woofers and dual 1-inch MicroTractrix Horn-loaded tweeters.

• Pluses: With a rich bass sound and significant power, the iGroove is easily twice as good as a $100 speaker system we listened to earlier this year.

• Minuses: It had better be twice as good, because it's more than twice as expensive. But if you're lacking a true stereo system with the proper pod hookups, it might be worth considering.

• Price: $249.99
