Ask!: RTD has a line on light-rail letters
Published February 26, 2007 at midnight
Martin asked recently why RTD's light-rail lines are designated C, D, E, F, G and H but not A and B.
I asked the readers and Thomas, who must make light rail a career or a serious hobby, had the answer: Those letters are reserved for future lines under the RTD's FasTracks expansion program. A is set aside for the DIA line, which for planning purposes is called the east corridor, and B will be the northwest corridor line, serving Boulder and Longmont.
You didn't ask, but other letters reserved for anticipated routes, according to FasTracks spokeswoman Pauletta Tonilas, are J, for the I-225 corridor; K, for the north metro corridor to Commerce City and Thornton; L, for the Gold Line through Arvada to Wheat Ridge; and M, for the west corridor line to the Jefferson County justice center.
You'll notice there's no I line. Tonilas said that's probably because I looks like a 1 or just a vertical mark, and planners wanted to minimize confusion.
If you'd like to post your own question, go to the Ask! blog: blogs.RockyMountainNews.com/denver/ask. While you're there, ponder this:
The high score of the recent NBA all-star game reminded me that the all-time NBA high score belonged to the Nuggets. In a quick Internet search, I found the final score in that game from the early '80s against Detroit was 186-184. I clearly remember that the Nuggets won, but most Internet entries said Detroit came out on top. Which is correct?
