• What: Children's Hospital Gala 2006 at the Adam's Mark Hotel

• Attendees: 1,450

• Funds raised: A whopping $2.3 million. Four auctions raised $368,000 of the total.

• Highlights: Ten-year-old Children's Hospital ambassador and cardiac patient Zellie Elliott performing with the Funky Beats youth tap dancers on stage. Fellow ambassadors were pulmonary patient Eryn Ely (6), liver transplant patient Madeline Seusy (12), occupational and physical therapy patient Dominic Harden (12), neurosurgery patient Nolan McLaughlin (11), and oncology patients Paul Lemieux (15) and Anise Fletcher (15).

• Wow factor!: It's the second year in a row that patron Ben Doud purchased the auto on the auction block — and immediately donated it back to be auctioned to another patron. Doud spent $46,000 on the 2007 Volvo C70; Jerrel Armstrong got the keys for a bargain $39,500.

Doud forked over another 15 grand so his pal Jack Overstreet could sing with headliner Huey Lewis. Michael Whalen paid the same price so his daughter, Kelsey, could croon with Lewis.

Gala co-chairmen Virginia and Scott Reiman flew in vocalist Lisa Lofthouse, from Laguna Beach, Calif., to entertain guests.

• Big auction bidders: Steve Shaffer (Kentucky Derby, $9,500); Charlie Gallagher (Fashionista Fantasy, $9,500); John Cohagen (Waterford Crystal, $9,000); and Terrence Murphy (French Chateau vacation, $16,000).

• Ambassadors were asked:

How did you get to be so brave? "Because I'm magical." — Eryn

Finish the sentence, I can't wait to . . . : "Get my license to drive. I'll obey all road signs — and if I ever do speed, I'll slow down immediately." — Dominic

Tell your funniest story: "After surgery, I asked for Sports Illustrated — it just happened to be the swimsuit issue." — Nolan

He also was asked what he wanted to do when he's 21: "I'd like to go to Vegas to play poker."

Scott Reiman responded, "Look me up when you turn 18 if you need a job."

• Behind the scenes: Anise and Paul met as ambassa- dors for the 2006 Courage Classic bike ride. After the gala, Anise asked Paul to be her date for Longmont's Silver Creek High School homecoming, which is Saturday night. He said yes.

• Supporters: Dinner co-chairmen Kelly and Michael Kennedy; Lisa and Bruce Alexander; Cindy and Steve Farber; Bridget and John Grier; Patti and Michael Imhoff; Christie and Walter Isenberg; Bobbi and Roy Reiman; Jane and Fred Hamilton; Marcy and Bruce Benson; Don Kortz; Dr. Dori Biester; and Steve Winesett.
