HALO, AGAIN, HALO
Who? Neill Blomkamp was tapped to direct the movie adaptation of the video game hit Halo, Microsoft said.
Who's he? Blomkamp is best known for his short film work and direction of an episode of the television series Dark Angel.
Why him? The director has received several awards for his films, including being named one of the top five directors to watch at the First Board Awards. He also has the endorsement of Halo's executive producer, the better-known Peter Jackson, who said he is excited to bring the space cowboy action of Halo to the big screen.
Where will he work? The movie, which will open in summer 2008, will be shot in Wellington, New Zealand and make use of Jackson's production and postproduction studios.
THEY SAID IT
"What, you don't remember it? It was over on Russet Lane in North Andover - we were over at the Melvins' house and they had acquired an Atari 2600 and we were jumping up and down in front of the screen doing jumping jacks because that's what it looked like the top row of aliens were doing. Yeah, that was pretty much the moment."
Famed game developer Cliff "CliffyB" Bleszinski, when asked in an interview by his less well-known brother, Tyler Bleszinski, when he realized that he wanted to work in game design.
