Kennedy: Wear details seen in 'Devil'
Published June 22, 2006 at midnight
The devil loves good product promotions.
In anticipation of the release of The Devil Wears Prada, the fashion-packed movie version of Lauren Weisberger's best-selling book, retailers are jumping on the branding bandwagon.
The plot of the film? Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) heads to New York and lands a job as an assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the high-powered editor of a top fashion magazine.
Weisberger was an assistant to Vogue's Anna Wintour, by the way.
Fashion fans can't wait to see the movie, out June 30. But in the meantime, here are a few tie-ins to tide us over while we wait.
Amazon.com recently launched a Devil Wears Prada online boutique. The top seller? A La Rue handbag from the special collection, that, according to Women's Wear Daily, became the No. 1-selling item in the Amazon Apparel & Accessories store within hours of the launch.
The trés cool Patricia Field-designed brown studded bag ($79.95), worn by Andy in the movie, can be transformed from a clutch to a tote. The style is sold out, but more will be available Aug. 1.
Also, be sure to check out the T-shirt and tank top with the movie line, "I'm just one stomach flu away from my goal weight" ($14.99).

Beauty emporium Sephora also is in on the buzz, launching four exclusive collections from high-end labels.
There's the Angels Wear Dior set ($50), with a full-size five-color eyeshadow, deluxe travel-size DiorKiss and deluxe travel-size DiorShow mascara.
There's the Oscar Blandi "Girl on the Go" set ($30), with hair protein mist and Pronto, a new dry shampoo for reviving hair without water.
There's The Devil Wears Sephora Train Case ($40), lined with red satin.
And, of course, there's the Prada Tendre set ($65), with a 1.7-oz. Tendre Eau de Parfum Spray and three deluxe minis of Intense, Regular and Tendre. At Sephora, FlatIron Crossing, and www.Sephora.com.
For those who want the fashions worn in the film for themselves, log on to eBay's The Devil Wears Prada auction.
Items up for bid, beginning Sunday, include Meryl Streep's Valentino white sheer silk chiffon tuxedo blouse, Bill Blass charcoal pinstriped suit, Nancy Gonzales brown woven straw bag with crocodile leather and Alaia maroon and black suede pumps. Also up for auction: Anne Hathaway's Prada black cocktail dress, Vince brown leather jacket, Calvin Klein bone wool coat and Armani silk blouse.
A percentage of the proceeds will go to Dress for Success. At www.ebay.com.
