Kennedy: T-shirt sales booming, baby
Published June 15, 2006 at midnight
Babies, books, bridesmaids, big events and Bang salon top this week's style stories.
Order the baby T
With parents like Angelina and Brad, it's no wonder Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt's first photo op was a stylish one.
The "most anticipated baby since Jesus Christ," according to MrPaparazzi.com, wears a "Pots & Pans Band" T- shirt from Kingsley ($42) on the cover of last week's People magazine.
The shirt was delivered to Brangelina courtesy of Belly, 3003 E. Third Ave. It's sold out at the store, but you can place an order at www.bellymaternity.com.
If you can't wait, I found the style available as of press time on the following Web sites:
Gwen Stefani and her new baby boy, Kingston, and Gwyneth Paltrow's brood, Apple and Moses, also are reportedly fans of the brand.
Super book
Book title of the week: Does This Cape Make Me Look Fat?: Pop Psychology for Superheroes (Chronicle Books, $12.95).
With Superman and the X-Men soaring into theaters near you, this book from Chelsea Cain and Marc Mohan offers a comical self-help guide for caped crusaders.
My favorite section? Costumes and Body Image, which takes a look at such significant topics as skin-to-Lycra ratios, the codpiece issue, tips for super hair (pigtails are only appropriate for Norse-goddess types; three words: extra-hold gel) and altering costumes (questions to ask yourself: Can I wear a bra with this? Will I have to buy all new accessories? Is my insignia visible from up to 60 feet away?).
Because even superheroes want their rear ends to look out of this world!
Farewell to Maids
Sadly, Maids by Michelle, the Cherry Creek North bridesmaid boutique, will close its doors June 24. Since opening in 2003, Michelle Odenbach's chic store, at 154 Steele St., has served nearly 4,000 Colorado bridesmaids. Odenbach says she's looking for a career with more flexibility so she can spend more time with her young son.
Store samples, which generally range from size 8 to 12, are now being sold at 75 percent off. All furnishings, mannequins and fixtures also will be sold.

Stylish events
Party on, Denver! Here are a couple of swanky, fashionable events taking place in the next couple of weeks:
Vanity, a runway show featuring fabulous hair by local salons Rita B, El Salon and Click, is sure to draw some of Denver's most stylish trendsetters. Benefiting the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Denver, its doors open at 5 p.m. Sunday, with the show starting at 6 p.m., at the JW Marriott, 150 Clayton Lane. Minimum donation of $25 at the door.
Fashion Denver, a group devoted to getting local independent designers in touch with the public, kicks off the summer with Splash, the latest installment of its local designer fashion market.
I checked out the last market and recommend seeing all the cool jewelry, handbags and clothing Denverites are creating. More than 30 designers are set to take part, with three fashion shows held throughout the day.
It takes place from noon to 8 p.m. June 25 at the Walnut Foundry, 3002 Walnut St. A $5 cover at the door benefits the Denver Rescue Mission. Visit www.fashiondenver.com for more information.
In with a 'Bang'
And here's to Bang Salon, 1207 E. Alameda Ave. in Washington Park and 2200 Kearney St. in Park Hill, for winning two international and national industry awards.
The Park Hill location, which was opened last September by owners Rodger and Lisa Garcia, was named 2006 Salon of the Year by Salon Today magazine, one of 20 salons receiving the honor nationwide. Winners where chosen based on design, innovative interiors, unusual themes and creative use of space.
Bang also was a semifinalist for the Global Salon Business Awards, which recognize and honor the world's leading hairdressing-salon owners.
