Sacramento St. makes quick work of UNC
Top-seeded Sacramento State proved to be too much for No. 5 seed Northern Colorado, taking a quick 30-21, 30-18, 30-25 victory in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Conference tournament Friday night in Sacramento, Calif.
The Bears (13-16) reached the quarterfinals after winning their first conference tournament match in school history, a five- set victory against No. 4-seed Montana on Thursday night.
Devon Crotteau and Lizzy Rhoads led the Bears with 14 kills each, while Kristen Schevikhoven had a match-high 47 assists. Abby Mayne led Northern Colorado in digs with 23.
Sacramento State and Eastern Washington meet in the finals tonight.
Colorado State (17-8, 11-4 Mountain West Conference) dropped a 23-30, 30-28, 30-28, 30-32, 15-13 decision to No. 20 Brigham Young (23-4, 12-3) in front of 2,074 fans at Moby Arena. BYU will be the second seed in the MWC tournament next week. CSU is the No. 3 seed.
Loveland High School graduate Hailey Mueller, Horizon High graduate Shawntell Jones, Windsor High graduate Kendra Schauermann, Fossil Ridge High graduate Jillian Kelly, and Platte Valley High graduate Cassie Vrooman will compete for No. 1-ranked Western Nebraska Community College in the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament Monday.
The top-seeded Cougars (53-1) open the tournament against Wilmington, N.C.-based Cape Fear (21-7) at 1 p.m. in West Plains, Mo.

Pankewicz's 2 goals lead Eagles over Rage
Central Hockey League scoring leader Greg Pankewicz collected two goals and an assist as the Colorado Eagles skated to a 4-3 victory against area rival Rocky Mountain Rage at the Broomfield Event Center.
Riley Nelson had two assists for Colorado (8-2).
Bret DeCecco and John DiPace each scored power-play goals for the Rage (3-5-2), who visit the Eagles at the Budweiser Events Center at 7 tonight.

Mines swimmers get high national rankings
The Colorado School of Mines men's and women's swimming and diving teams are ranked 16th and 26th, respectively in the CollegeSwimming.com Division II power rankings. The teams return to action Dec. 1-2 in the Nebraska-Omaha Invitational.
Former Cherry Creek High School athlete Jordon Thomas finished with nine points, four rebounds and three steals as the South Carolina-Aiken women's basketball team (2-0) beat Catawba College (0-3) 74-63 in the opening game of the ASU Courtyard Classic in Augusta, Ga.
Pomona High senior Ashli Holland signed a letter of intent to play softball at UNLV next fall.
Adams State junior punter/ place kicker Wayne Durham was named the Don Hansen's Football Gazette player of the week.

Arvada golfer DeWitt makes cut at tourney
Arvada's Rick DeWitt carded a third-round 71 and was tied for 37th place in the Champions Tour National qualifying golf tournament in Coral Springs, Fla.
Colorado Springs' Gregg C. Jones and Castle Rock's Bill Loeffler were tied for 48th.
Erik Weihenmayer, the first blind athlete to summit Mount Everest, will speak at 6:45 a.m. Dec. 1 at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs.
