Tidbits: When Duane was diagnosed by doctors as protein, dairy and grains intolerant, she took her new challenging diet and turned it into what she calls an "epic cooking adventure."
"I'm not alone. There are millions of Americans who are dairy and gluten intolerant, and millions more who avoid cholesterol," Duane said. "I went to cooking school and learned how to cook with alternative ingredients, then started the company, knowing I could help others."
Since 2005, Duane has produced three instructional DVDs - Chocolate, Italian and Mexican - and says her recipes and methods focus on using unrefined and unprocessed foods, including beans, fruits, vegetables, nuts and chocolate. Additionally, each DVD is 75 minutes long and features six meals.
"I'm currently working on DVDs that will feature kids' meals, cookies and one titled Baking 101," she added. "Cooking and eating this way can be pleasing, and a lot of fun."

Audio and communications products
Price: $49.99-$349.99
Where you can get it: Web site and various resellers
Business owners: A small group of local, private investors
Location: Lakewood
Tidbits: Able Planet was founded in 2003 on a technology called Linx Audio, discovered after 10 years of research and development in Fort Collins by a person suffering from profound hearing loss and an audiologist.
Chief Executive Officer Kevin Semcken, who also suffers from hereditary hearing loss in one ear, says the patent-pending technology has three critical elements that make it valuable to people with all levels of hearing.
"Linx Audio creates high-frequency harmonics, filters undesirable noise and limits distortion," Semcken said. "This enhanced signal increases the perception of loudness without the volume needing to increase to unsafe levels. Most people can hear a big difference."
The company provides several types of headphones for all levels of hearing, telephones for individuals suffering from normal to mild hearing loss and a hearing-aid device.
Products coming soon include infrared headphones for use in movie theaters and the Able Talker - a device that will transmit a person's voice in hard-to-hear environments directly to an Able Planet hearing aid or wireless headphone.
