Business owner: Laurie Johnson

Tidbits: Laurie Johnson created LemonAid Crutches and Step With Hope by accident - literally. The plane crash that she survived claimed the lives of her "boys" - her husband, Clyde Johnson, and their 2-year-old son, Macallan - and kept her on crutches for two years. She decided to use her loss as an inspiration to help others in similar situations. "I want to honor them. I am so grateful for the time that I had with them, and I have a new perspective because of it. I'm just so grateful for every moment and every person I've met because of all this," she said.

LemonAid Crutches designs and produces colorful crutches and matching crutch accessories, called Crutch Wear. Fifty percent of the profits go to Step With Hope, a nonprofit organization Johnson established to offer assistance for people who are grieving the loss of multiple family members. "For people who are going through very tough times, I want to be an encouragement. Not a day goes by that I don't miss the boys, but I'm now able to sit here and feel joy and comfort and peace again."
