Mark Beese
marketing director, Holland & Hart
Mark Beese, marketing director of Holland & Hart, used life skills he learned from his heroes, Randy DeFrank and Dave Knight, to develop the in-house marketing division at the law firm.
DeFrank and Knight were Beese's Boy Scout leaders when he was a rebellious teenager trying to figure himself out, Beese explained.
"They took so much time away from other things in their busy lives and spent it with me. . . . They were just there for me as mentors, sounding boards and friends," he said.
In addition to having lucrative careers, DeFrank and Knight were involved with many organizations in their communities, serving as board members and as hands-on volunteers.
"They always told me that there was always a way to make things work. They showed me that leadership is all about serving others. True leaders are servants," Beese said. So "when it came time to decide our marketing business model, we chose one of service."
