It's safe to say Brett Clark has found a home with the Avalanche.
After failing to find regular playing time in the NHL for six seasons, the 30-year-old defenseman has set career highs for goals, assists and points two years in a row with the Avalanche after his Jan. 24, 2002, acquisition from the Atlanta Thrashers for minor league goalie Frederic Cassivi.
Clark was rewarded Monday with a two-year, $7 million contract extension. He will make $1.5 million in 2007-08 and $3.5 million in each of the next two seasons.
Clark played in all 82 games last season and had 10 goals, 29 assists and a plus-5 rating, along with a team-leading 23:40 in average ice time.
"Brett has been an instrumental part of our team's overall success," Avalanche general manager Francois Giguere said. "He's been a steady, dependable asset to our defensive group, and we expect him to be a strong contributor to this club in the coming seasons."
