Avs sign Clark to two-year contract extension

The Avalanche on Monday signed defenseman Brett Clark to a two-year contract extension through the 2009-10 season.
Clark, 30, already was signed through the upcoming season for $1.5 million. He will make $3.5 million in each of the following two seasons.
He played in all 82 games last season and set career highs for goals (10), assists (29) and points (39). He had a plus-5 rating and led the Avalanche in ice time at 23:40 per game.
"Brett has been an instrumental part of our team's overall success," Avalanche general manager Francois Giguere said. "He's been a steady, dependable asset to our defensive group and we expect him to be a strong contributor to this club in the coming seasons. Brett's shown a tremendous amount of perseverance and he's demonstrated his commitment and dedication to our organization."
Clark has 19 goals and 56 assists in 162 games in his two season
with the Avalanche. He has 24 goals and 62 assists in 320 NHL games,
which includes stops in Montreal and Atlanta.
