Parker: Canadian press goes bonkers over Theodore-Hilton news

The news that Colorado Avalanche goaltender Jose Theodore was seen hooking up with serial partier Paris Hilton over the weekend has hit the Canadian press like a slapshot.
The 29-year-old hockey hunk was snapped at a party after the Much Music Awards in Toronto "snoggling" (as a Globe and Mail reporter put it) and holding hands with Hilton. They were later seen together in the lobby of Hilton's hotel.
On Wednesday, the daily Le Journal de Montreal ran a three-page photo spread of the cozy couple. The newspaper obtained the seven photos from the Canadian gossip/entertainment show eTalk Daily, said the story's co-writer, Dany Bouchard.
"The TV show obtained the photos, but we don't know how," Bouchard told me, before handing the phone over to colleague Agnes Gaudet, who was more comfortable speaking English.
"Jose is like a star in Montreal," Gaudet said about her newspaper's decision to run the photo on the front page. "He was a very, very good hockey player and was known for the hockey, but he also used to play guitar for Simple Plan, a Canadian band from Quebec."
Theodore was traded by Montreal to the Avalanche earlier this year for David Aebischer.
The newspaper and Internet stories also included the news that Theodore is the father of a 3-month-old girl with his girlfriend, Stephanie Cloutier, daughter of well-known Canadian entertainment industry producer Guy Cloutier. Stephanie, an aspiring model, and Jose both had parts in the 2001 movie Les Boys III, a comedy about sports.
"Any time Jose did something here, it would go on the front pages," Gaudet said. "He's a very popular person with . . . fans. That's why everything he does interests all of Quebec."
COURIC'S CROWD: I told you earlier this month that Katie Couric is coming to town, now I've got deets to dish.
Starting Monday you can visit cbs4denver.com for a chance to be chosen for the town hall talk with Couric on July 13 at the Denver Performing Arts Complex.
One hundred local folks will be selected for the meet and greet with the new CBS Evening News anchor, based on answers to an online questionnaire. Denver is one of six towns across the country that Couric will visit before debuting on the anchor desk in September.
"She wants to talk about issues and what people want to see in a network newscast," said CBS 4 news director Tim Wieland. "People sitting in the town hall will get to shape a network newscast. How often can you say that?"
During her Denver stop, Couric will also keynote an 11:30 a.m. luncheon at Kevin Taylor's at the Opera House, a benefit for the Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers Foundation.
Tickets: (first 150 folks only) are $250. Reservations: Cindi Schneidmiller, 303-930-7820 or e-mail cindi.schneidmiller@usoncology.com.
DENVER RULES: Wendy Aiello, PR princess for the Denver 2008 Convention Host Committee, was peeved over a Page Six tidbit in Wednesday's New York Post that talked about bold-face names that were wooing the Site Selection Committee members to choose the Big Apple for the next Democratic convention. New York, New Orleans and Minneapolis are competing against Denver for the Dems.
"They've got Jessica Seinfeld, Charlie Gibson and Barbara Walters," Aiello hissed. "We've got Juanita Chacon, Linda Alvarado, Elbra Wedgeworth, Wellington Webb, Gov. Owens and Steve Farber." Aiello took special exception to the Page Six excerpt from Walters, "who vowed she'd take (Democratic National Committee exec director) Tom McMahon out after the party and get him loaded."
"Forget Barbara Walters, I'll get all the beautiful Cherry Creek girls and take the whole committee out and show them what partying is all about," Aiello said.
BUSH BASH: It seems that Pierce Bush, son of the President's bro, Neil (of the 1980s Denver savings-and-loan scandal), may be getting overexposed.
The snarky political Web site wonkette.com has a picture gallery of baby Bush, a 20-year- old student at the University of Texas, snapped in several shots drinking Bud Lights and partying with bodacious babes and a transsexual (not that there's anything wrong with that). Check out pix at -wonkette.com, and scroll down to "Pierce Bush and Facebook" story.
