Parker: Unnamed Hick fans sing a merry tune

This little "Christmas present" arrived in my e-mail while I was gone golfing in Arizona. It's a ditty from a Draft Hick supporter sung to the tune of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.

The super secret double probation Draft Hick folks have banded together to form an anonymous Web site campaign (drafthick.com) to urge Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper to run for governor.

So far, Rep. Bob Beauprez and former DU president Marc Holtzman are vying for the Republican nomination while former Denver DA Bill Ritter is the sole Democratic candidate.

Here goes:

You better watch out,

You better not try,

Hey, Bob Beauprez

I'm telling you why,

Cause Hickenlooper's coming to town

He knows what you've been eating,

He owns where you just ate,

He knows that you've been bad not good

So retreat and be afraid . . .

You better watch out,

You better not try,

Hey, Bob Beauprez

I'm telling you why,

Hickenlooper's coming to town.

"Looks like someone got into the egg nog a little early this year," joked Hickenlooper spokeswoman Lindy Eichenbaum Lent.

Colorado Republican party spokeswoman Rachael Sunbarger was less amused.

"Why is Mayor Hickenlooper stalking Bob Beauprez?" she asked. "Has he been putting something in the Congressman's food? . . . Are Democrats allowed to refer to a (gulp) Christmas song?"

CONDOLENCES: Former Denver sushi chef Chris Selby died as a result of a seizure on Dec. 17. The seizure happened after an accidental fall from a porch, according to an e-mail from his grandmother Suzanne Hudson.

Chris, who toiled in top Denver kitchens including Sushi Den, Japon, Brasserie Rouge and Zengo, had moved to Indianapolis where he lived with his dad. He was 33. Chris' brother Matt Selby is the executive chef at Vesta Dipping Grill.

"It's a tough loss as a brother and for my family," Matt said. "As far as the Denver restaurant family goes, it's a huge loss. He was one of those chefs who never reached his potential, but nevertheless his influence can be seen all over the city. I'd like to think many chefs out there would agree."

Matt is planning on a memorial "open house" to honor his brother, but no date is set yet. He's looking for local chefs to cook for the event. If you can help, please call Matt at Vesta, 303-296-1970.

And on a personal note . . . my heart goes out to the Denver realty team Carol and Nancy Levine who lost their beloved husband and dad Jack Levine to a heart attack on Dec. 24.

Levine, a prominent local lawyer, was 74. Services will be held at 10:30 this morning at Temple Emanuel, 51 Grape St.

GA-GA GRANDMA: Rockin' Realtor Edie Marks and her husband, Mort, became grandparents for the third time when daughter Elise Gruitch and her husband, Jeff, welcomed Samantha into the world on Dec. 20.

"Grandma was all prepared during the Neil Diamond concert holding the telephone in my hand," Edie said. "But Samantha was thoughtful enough to let us enjoy the whole concert before we became grandparents for the third time."

THE SEEN: Awesome astronaut John Glenn, his wife, Annie, and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright in first class on a United flight from Washington, D.C., to DIA on Dec. 21.

"The Glenns were as cute as can be in holiday garb, and Madeleine and her friend were chic in black," according to my spy. "Glenn stopped and talked to the pilots, which I think made their year. Albright retrieved her own bags and seemed very down to earth."

Actor and Aspenite Will Smith working out at the Aspen Club on Dec. 22. Will and his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, traditionally host a New Year's Eve party in Glamour Gulch.

Denver-East-High-grad-turned-actress Pam Grier shopping at the new Whole Foods in Tiffany Plaza on Christmas Eve.

EAVESDROPPING on a woman talking to a man at a Christmas Eve party: "I want to see that movie Capote."

"You mean the one about Al Capote?"

Penny Parker's column appears Tuesday through Saturday. Call her at 303-892-5224 or e-mail .
