Kim notches second victory
Anthony Kim is on the cusp of joining the short list of challengers to Tiger Woods, a point driven home Sunday not so much by his victory at the AT&T National as the phone call he received from the tournament host.

LINCICOME: All-Star pick doesn't fit Fukudome to a 'T'
Without surprise the two best Rockies are on the National League All-Star team, pitcher Aaron Cook and left fielder Matt Holliday.

Change can be good
It is so sad that kids today are not allowed to count out change. The kids working in the retail area have cash registers that tell them what change to give the customers. How will they ever learn how to count out change?
No need to yell 'action!'
During the 2006-07 ski season, Louisiana businessman James Griffith was skiing at Beaver Creek with his wife, their 8-year-old twins, a business partner and his wife.
Idealism goes astray in 'personhood' issue
Idealism in young people is a wonderful thing. Usually.
Russia's diplomacy by intimidation
Maybe the most useful thing about the U.S. proposal to base missile interceptors in Eastern Europe is what it has revealed about the Russians. Moscow wants to be accepted as a full and respected partner by modern Europe but can't seem to help reverting to its old thuggish ways.
Bloggers trick the censors
To slip past Internet censors squashing reports of a weekend riot in China's Guizhou province, some bloggers have started writing backward.
Microsoft sells Office on subscription basis
Microsoft Corp. will begin selling its Office programs to consumers on a subscription basis starting mid-July, in a bid to reach thrifty PC buyers who would otherwise pass on productivity software.
Connections in high places
Passengers boarding a handful of American Airlines' flights this summer could be logged on and checking e-mail before the "Fasten Seatbelt" light goes off.
Mayor's response to shootings stupid
The mayor's response to two recent shootings - in LoDo and in Curtis Park - was stupid and uneducated ("Safe community touted by mayor after shootings," June 24).
Fiber-optics outpaces cable Internet service
For the first time, more people around the world are signing up for fiber-optic broadband service than for cable Internet service, according to a British research firm.
'Fairness' or censorship?
With 2008 looking like a very good year to be a Democrat, talk is growing of reviving the Fairness Doctrine next year after the new president and Congress are sworn in. The idea seems to be to force pesky broadcast commentators such as Rush Limbaugh to "balance" their political coverage.
All entitled to road
In response to David Levy's letter ("Bicyclists really aren't entitled to be on road," June 24), does Mr. Levy realize that it is illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk? And maybe he isn't aware that many people who ride bikes also own cars and do pay a great deal in taxes to use the roads.
Free speech not guaranteed by online providers
Rant all you want in a public park. A police officer generally won't eject you for your remarks alone, however unpopular or provocative.
A two-way street
Another Bike to Work Day has come and gone, and with it another reminder that Denver is not ready for a huge influx of cyclists on our streets: Bikes whizzing by pedestrians on sidewalks, blowing red lights, riding against traffic on one-way streets and, of course, the omnipresent bike messengers giving the literal and figurative finger to the rest of us, regardless of how we travel.
Scientologist takes umbrage at remark
I was surprised that out of all of the remarks that comedian Kathy Griffin made during the fourth season debut of her TV show, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, the Rocky Mountain News chose to include a discriminatory remark about my religion ("Griffin always 'on,' "" Spotlight, June 11). If the remark had been about Judaism or Islam, would the Rocky have included it in the article?
Bigotry thinly veiled
After reading Richard Doran's shocking letter of June 26, "Iowa vs. New Orleans: What a difference!" I have to wonder what the real differences are between those hard-working, self-sufficient folks in Iowa and those lazy, violent, welfare-dependent slackers in New Orleans.
