CU will see two familiar faces

BOULDER - When the University of Colorado plays Nebraska on Nov. 24 in Lincoln, the Cornhuskers might have an insider's edge - make that a double - on the Buffaloes.

But how much of an advantage that might be is debatable, CU coach Dan Hawkins said.

Nebraska's staff includes two former CU assistants, receivers coach Ted Gilmore (2003-2004) and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Shawn Watson (1999- 2005).

Former Buffs coach Gary Barnett contended Gilmore's knowledge of CU's personnel played a part in the Cornhuskers' 30-3 victory last season in Boulder.

While Hawkins agreed familiarity with personnel might be an issue, he said how he and his staff use players in the context of a new scheme might negate the familiarity factor.

Too much information "can be dangerous at times," Hawkins said.

"We've got guys doing different things than before."

TAKING OUT THE RED: Hawkins recognizes the CU-Nebraska rivalry but not to the extent of making it a red-letter game on the Buffs' schedule, a practice started by former coach Bill McCartney and continued by the two coaches who followed him, Rick Neuheisel and Barnett.

While Hawkins never has emphasized a game in that manner, he said he, his staff and players recognize its traditional importance.

SAFETY COMMITS: CU has received a commitment from Devonne Quattlebaum, a high school quarterback/defensive back from Monetta, S.C.

According to www.BuffaloStampede.com, CU projects the 6-foot, 180-pound Quattlebaum as a free safety.

He is the Buffs' 21st confirmed commitment for 2007.
