ORLANDO, Fla. Nuggets coach George Karl was optimistic injured forward Kenyon Martin would be back in four to five weeks.
He wont even be back in four to five months.
The Nuggets announced Wednesday that Martin will be out for the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail. Martin underwent surgery Wednesday, and significant damage was found in the knee, more than a magnetic resonance imaging exam previously had revealed.
Martin was originally going to have the surgery Thursday. But the procedure was moved up during a cancellation.
Martin had pronounced himself healthy heading into the season after two season in which he had problems with his left knee. Martin underwent microfracture surgery on that knee in May 2005.
Martin played the first two games this season before cartilage damage was found in his right knee. Martin had been told he would miss six to eight weeks, and Karl was even more optimistic.
But Martins season is now done.
