No Rockies parade expected

In the aftermath of the Rockies' disappointing sweep at the hands the Red Sox, no one is rushing to organize a parade to celebrate the team's otherwise Cinderella season.

KOA reported a parade was happening. Channel 9 reported that the Downtown Denver Partnership was planning a celebration for the Rockies. But Sarah McClean, spokeswoman for the business group, said it was not planning any such event.

"We would support a celebration, but it's up to the Rockies," she said.

Mayor John Hickenlooper was rumored to have met with team representatives this morning about a parade.

But Sarah Moss, a spokeswoman for Hickenlooper, denied that rumor, saying that she wasn't aware of such a meeting today.

The mayor's office had been in contact with the Rockies during the team's improbable playoff run to the World Series about a parade or rally.

"We had been in touch with the Rockies ... and offered our support should they decide to pursue a celebration, but that would be up to them," Moss said.

The Rockies so far have shown little interest in a parade following the team's World Series loss.

Denver Police Spokesman Sonny Jackson said neither the Rockies nor the mayor's office has applied for a permit to hold a parade.

Rockies spokesman Jay Alves said the team does not have plans at this time to have the city hold a parade in its honor.

It appears the team isn't in the mood to celebrate after the Rockies swung and missed at its ultimate goal.

"It was a tremendous season and our fans have been incredible, but we still have one step to take before everyone can celebrate with a parade," Alves said. "That step would be the world championship."
