Three keys
Key moments in the Rockies' 7-3 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night at Chase Field:
1 Cory Sullivan, who delivered a two-run, pinch-hit single in the eighth for the Rockies' first runs, tripled to lead off what became a four-run 10th inning built around relief pitcher Tony Peña's throwing error.
2 Pinch runner Jamey Carroll scored the tying run with two out in the ninth on Garrett Atkins' single to center. Chris Young tried to make a catch on the ball but short-hopped it, had it bounce away and did not quickly retrieve the ball.
3 With two out in the seventh, Miguel Montero followed up Stephen Drew drawing a walk and Mark Reynolds being hit by a pitch with a home run off Rockies starter Ubaldo Jimenez, giving Arizona a 3-0 lead.
Etc.
The only Rockies player who cleared waivers during August was first baseman Todd Helton, who is guaranteed $73.5 million over the next four years. . . . Left-hander Jeremy Affeldt rejoined the Rockies on Friday afternoon. He had missed the final two games in San Francisco to be with his wife for the birth of the couple's first child. . . . Left fielder Matt Holliday's single to lead off the sixth inning extended his streak to 36 consecutive games in which he has reached base, a club record. Larry Walker set the record of 35 in 2002 and Todd Helton equaled it last year. . . . They haven't caught pennant fever in the Valley of the Sun. Arizona is atop the National League West, but on a Friday night, they sold only 26,127 tickets for the game with the Rockies. The Rockies actually have outdrawn Arizona (1,871,575 to 1,825,202) and have played 65 home games, compared with 67 for the Diamondbacks. . . . San Diego and Los Angeles are the only NL West teams with winning records within the division. . . . Former Rockies third base coach Gene Glynn, now scouting for Tampa Bay, is watching the Rockies-Diamondbacks series this weekend.
