Three keys
Key moments in the Rockies' 10-2 win Wednesday against the San Diego Padres at Coors Field:
1 After giving up three consecutive hits to start the game to fall behind 2-0, Aaron Cook held the Padres scoreless the rest of the way and threw 74 pitches, the fewest in any Rockies complete game. The fewest in a nine- inning complete game had been 91 by Josh Fogg at Seattle on June 30, 2006.
2 Ryan Spilborghs put the Rockies ahead 3-2 when he led off the fifth inning with an estimated 452-foot home run to center field.
3 The Rockies broke open the game with four runs in the sixth thanks in large part to Padres left fielder Russell Branyan. Matt Holliday's line drive sailed over Branyan's head for a run- scoring double. Another run scored when Garrett Atkins' single went between Branyan's legs.
Etc.
Cook is 5-0 with a 2.01 ERA in seven home starts against San Diego. . . . Cook's complete game was the sixth of his career, tying Jason Jennings and John Thomson for the second most in franchise history. Pedro Astacio (14) is the Rockies' all-time leader. . . . Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki missed a second consecutive game because of an illness but was available off the bench. . . . Catcher Chris Iannetta went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, extending his hitless streak to 27 at-bats. . . . Injured reliever Brian Fuentes is expected to play long toss today as he continues rehabilitating a strained muscle below his left armpit. . . . Veteran reliever Dave Veres, who last pitched in the majors in 2003 and is attempting a comeback with an artificial hip, made his first appearance for Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday, allowing five earned runs and four hits in two-thirds of an inning. . . . San Diego infielder and Evergreen native Kevin Kouzmanoff turned 26 on Wednesday. He went 1-for-3 and made an error.
