Three keys
Key moments in the Rockies' 11-5 win against the New York Mets at Shea Stadium on Wednesday afternoon:
1 After Josh Fogg singled to open the third, Willy Taveras, attempting to sacrifice, bunted to pitcher Mike Pelfry and beat the throw to first. That put two runners on with no out and set up a five-run inning that included run-scoring singles by Matt Holliday and Todd Helton and culminated with John Mabry's three-run homer.
2 Taveras beat out another bunt after Fogg singled to start the fourth. After a sacrifice by Troy Tulowitzki, Holliday singled home two runs to make it 8-0 and Helton followed with a run-scoring double.
3 Fogg gave up a single to Carlos Beltran in the fourth that put runners on first and second. Trailing 9-0, the Mets were looking to crawl back into the game. Fogg didn't let them as he got Carlos Delgado to fly out to left field and David Wright to ground to shortstop.
Etc.
The Rockies broke a four-game losing streak on the road and a five-game losing streak at Shea Stadium, where they won for the second time in 16 games since an 11-3 victory Oct. 2, 2005. . . . Holliday, the only Rockies player to have started all 22 games, came out in the sixth. He extended his hitting streak to nine games with his 10th multihit game of the season. During his past 13 games, Holliday is 24-for-50 (.480) to increase his average from .282 to .393. . . . With a single in the eighth, Jeff Baker broke a string of 17 hitless at-bats. . . . The Rockies also scored 11 runs April 4 at Coors Field in an 11-4 victory against Arizona. . . . Clint Barmes made his fourth start and first at second base. Jamey Carroll had started the previous 10 games there, going 6-for-39. . . . Reliever LaTroy Hawkins will undergo a magnetic resonance imaging exam today on his inflamed right forearm. He is on the disabled list for the second time in a career that began in 1995. . . . Garrett Atkins was on the bench after going 0-for-10 in the first two games of the series, when he struck out four times and hit two balls out of the infield. . . . Cedric "Doc" Brooks, a minor league outfielder the Rockies released during spring training, was suspended for 50 games by the commissioner's office after failing a drug test. His penalty will take effect immediately if he signs with a major league organization.
