NUMBERS GAME

.400 career average for left-handed- hitting Steve Finley against Arizona left-hander Doug Davis. That could get Finley his first Rockies start this afternoon.

Finley is 4-for-10 against Davis. The other Rockies player with success against Davis is Willy Taveras, who has hit .375. No other Rockies player has as many as 10 at-bats against Davis.

"When you get a new player, you do look at some of the numbers and look for some trends," Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said when asked about the possibility of Finley starting.

NEXT STEP

Right-hander Brian Lawrence said no determination was made on how long he would be on a medical rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Colorado Springs.

"I'm not worrying about that right now," he said. "The only thing that matters is (Thursday, when he starts the Sky Sox opener). If I go down and pitch well, other things take care of themselves."

Lawrence, who missed last season after shoulder surgery, could force a move with the Rockies rotation if he has several solid starts for the Sky Sox.

The maximum rehabilitation assignment for a pitcher is 30 days.

HE SAID IT

"I feel like I'm in adult timeout, so I want it to feel the way it is supposed to feel."

Hurdle, on why he wasn't planning to go to dinner or a movie Tuesday night while serving a one-game suspension.
