Brandon Marshall charged with DUI

Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall was cited for driving under the influence after he was spotted driving "erratically" early Monday, a Denver police spokesman said.

It's the second time in less than a year the football player has been in trouble with the law.

Police arrested Marshall at 14th and Blake streets around 2 a.m., took him to a detox center, and was later released, said Detective John White.

He could not say what Marshall's blood-alcohol level was or whether he took a sobriety test.

"He was driving erratically and was contacted by the officers," White said.

The arrest came hours after the Broncos defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-28 on a Jason Elam field goal.

White said he didn't know if Marshall was driving by himself when he was arrested, or when he would appear in Denver County court on the citation.

"We are aware of the situation," said Jim Saccomano, vice president of public relations for the Broncos. "We are currently gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time."

In March, Douglas County sheriff's deputies arrested Marshall, 23, at his Highlands Ranch apartment following an argument with his girlfriend, Jameelah L. Watley.

Watley told deputies Marshall tried to prevent her from leaving the apartment complex by blocking her taxi with a car. She said the 6-foot-4 football player pounded on the taxi cab's windows while yelling profanities at her.

Marshall disputed Watley's allegations, saying he was only trying to prevent her from leaving with his phone.

The 18th Judicial District Attorney's office, which includes Douglas County, dropped false imprisonment charges against Marshall in May, after he completed anger management classes.

"For my career to go through what it went through, and my character and personality taking a hit over something that basically wasn't valid, was an eye-opener to the high profile that (I have as an athlete)," Marshall told the Rocky Mountain News after charges were dropped.

Marshall, a second-year wide receiver, leads the Broncos in receptions and receiving yards this season. He has caught 33 passes for 439 yards and two touchdowns.
