A Briggsdale woman died early today when her car crashed into a sugar beet truck that had run a stop sign at Colorado 392, east of Lucerne, the Colorado State Patrol said.
The 53-year-old woman's identity was withheld, pending notification of relatives.
The victim died instantly when her westbound 2004 Ford Escape hit the side of the white Kenworth truck, carrying a load of sugar beets, said Gilbert Mares, spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol.
The fatal accident occurred around 9 a.m., blocking traffic for two hours until State Patrol completed an investigation and cleared the wreckage.
"After the impact, the truck continued south and rolled one-quarter time onto its right side," Mares said. "The Ford Escape rotated counter clockwise and came to rest on the east of County Road 43."
The truck driver, who also hasn't been identified, was not seriously injured, said State Patrol.
Mares said alcohol, drugs and speed were not contributing factors in
the accident.
