A rally will be held Wednesday in Denver to mark the one-year countdown to the Democratic National Convention.
Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, will speak at the rally. Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper also will appear.
Denver will host the Democrats next August, the first time in 100 years the city has hosted a major political convention. The gathering is expected to bring more than 25,000 visitors to the Mile High City, including 15,000 journalists.
The Democrats hope to showcase their recent gains in Colorado and other Western states. The party is planning to use the convention to make a pitch to the traditionally Republican Rocky Mountain region.
Wednesdays rally will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the west entrance to the Pepsi Center. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided.
