Police are investigating an apparent suicide July 31 in which a man wrapped a cable around his neck and decapitated himself by fastening the cable to a pole and driving away at a high rate of speed.

According to a report, at about 2 p.m., police responded to the parking lot of the Castle Rock Stadium 12 movie theater, 3960 Limelight Ave, on a suicide call.

A construction worker going to his car in the movie theater parking lot noticed another vehicle that appeared to be abandoned in a field. As he approached the vehicle, he discovered what appeared to be a body and called 911.

Officers discovered the dismembered body of white male, early 60s, who had apparently committed suicide. The cause of death was decapitation, according to investigators.

Apparently, the victim wrapped a cable around a concrete pillar through the back seat of his car, on the left hand side, then placed the cable around his neck. He rapidly accelerated the car, which caused the decapitation. The car coasted to a stop in an adjoining field.

Police have sealed the area off and are conducting their investigation. The Douglas County coroner has been notified and is on scene.

The identity of the man is not being released until it can be confirmed.
