A woman was transported by helicopter to Swedish Medical Center with serious injuries this morning after her vehicle bounced several times down a 100-foot embankment in Lakewood.

Micki Trost, a spokeswoman for West Metro Fire Rescue, said fire crews cut off the 4-door Buick sedan's roof and both doors to remove the woman after the accident near West Jewell Avenue and South Xenon Street.

"She had very serious injuries and was airlifted to Swedish Hospital," Trost said. "She went down a very steep embankment into a creek."

Approximately 30 firefighters were dispatched to the scene, she said.

"The vehicle was damaged almost beyond recognition. Every side of the vehicle was impacted on the way down the ravine," Trost said.

Trost said the vehicle became airborne at one point as it bounced and hit rocks on its way down the ravine.

The vehicle came to a stop in a creek at the bottom of the hill, she said.

Police spokesman Steve Davis said authorities were notified of the single-vehicle accident about 8:20 a.m.
