GREELEY A Weld County judge collapsed and died while on the bench in court Monday.
Judge Frank Henderson, 50, apparently suffered a heart attack, state court administrator Rob McCallum said in a statement.
"He was in court presiding over county court matters when he lost consciousness on the bench," McCallum said.
Henderson collapsed around 4 p.m. and it was unclear whether he died in court or on the way to a hospital, McCallum said.
"We are very sorry to hear of Judge Henderson's passing," State Court Administrator Jerry Marroney said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Judge Henderson's family. He was a compassionate, devoted member of the judiciary and he will be deeply missed."
Henderson lived in Weld County since 1989 and was appointed to the bench in May 2006.
He is survived by his wife, Wendy Harrison, and two daughters, Sara and Julia Sell.
Henderson earned an undergraduate degree from University of New Hampshire in 1981 and his law degree from Franklin Pierce Law Center in New Hampshire in 1986, the same year he was admitted to the Colorado Bar.
He had worked for the Colorado State Public Defenders Office for 14
years.
