A Littleton girl was killed and four other members of her church group were injured when their pickup truck lost control and flipped over a guard rail Friday near Cheyenne.
Morgan Buchli, 13, a student at Summit Ridge Middle School, died at the scene, authorities said. Two other girls with the group, ages 14 and 12, were airlifted to Childrens Hospital in Denver with spinal and head injuries.
The mother of one of the injured girls suffered a fractured spine. The man who was driving also was in fair condition today at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
Wyoming Highway Patrol investigators said the man may have fallen asleep at the wheel on Interstate 80 about five miles west of Cheyenne as the group was returning from a camping trip in central Wyoming. The pickup, which became detached from its utility trailer, landed on its top near an overpass about 4:30 p.m., the patrol said.
The eastbound lanes were closed for an hour and a half after the crash.
