A Catholic priest convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage boy who came to him for counseling at Spirit of Christ Community Church in Arvada was sentenced today to four years in prison.
The sentence imposed in Jefferson County will be added to one imposed in Larimer County yesterday, which calls for Evans to serve 14 years to life in prison for sexually abusing young boys while he was a priest at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish.
In the Jefferson County case, Evans was convicted of fondling a 17-year-old boy who entered counseling in 1996 after his Catholic parents found witchcraft books in his backpack.
Evans denied inappropriate contact with the teen and two other young men who testified that they had been sexually assaulted by Evans.
"I am a believer in the power of touch," Evans testified during the trial. "I believe it is very scriptural. Jesus often touched people he was not supposed to touch."
