A Dumpster fire in an unincorporated area of Arapahoe County melted a nearby tank that spilled 1,500 gallons of magnesium chloride into the sewer system Sunday evening.
Sheriff's deputies were called to the area of 7560 East Harvard Avenue at about 7:40 p.m., where they found flames shooting 20 feet into the air. The heat from the fire melted the tank of magnesium chloride, which is used to de-ice roads.
Cunningham Fire Department advised there was no need for hazardous
material clean up. The Denver Water Department was notified of the
spill. Two possible suspects were identified by witnesses as two young
males, ages 12 and 10. Damages were estimated at $3,850.
