SPRING FEVER IN THE CENTENNIAL STATE

The coming of spring and warmer weather gives Extra! a hankering to get outside and enjoy the natural beauty our fine state offers. And, just in time for the season, our friends at the Colorado Division of Wildlife have rolled out a new Web site that will help point nature lovers in the direction of trails that offer wildlife watching opportunities.

The site, www.colorado birdingtrail.com, has been two years in the making, involving the cooperation of public and private landowners. It features a series of interactive maps separated into geographical zones.

The site also provides other resources, including tips on how best to view wildlife, a list of resources to help viewers in the field, information on Colorado's major habitats or life zones, and a field notes page highlighting a specific site or trail.

Rep. Tom Tancredo, amending his position following a debate last week in which he raised his hand when asked who among the Republican candidates didn't believe in evolution.

ROCKY FLASHBACK

• Boulder to trap, not kill, prairie dogs

Boulder County commissioners rejected a plan to kill thousands of prairie dogs, which are rapidly multiplying on nearly 300 acres of county open-space land. Instead, by a 2-1 vote, they gave a Boulder woman three additional months to continue trying to trap the burrowing rodents for relocation and to try to attract predators to control the population naturally.
