Jennifer Kois always will be a part of a special expression of love that tied her family and friends together.
"Our statement to each other has always been and will always be I love you FAD, which means Forever and A Day," Jennifer's mother, Liane VonFeldt, and her stepfather, Peter, said in a statement.
Kois, 19, continued that FAD with her boyfriend, Jacob "Jake" Brock, also 19. The couple were attending Mesa State College in Grand Junction when they were killed by an alleged drunken driver who was trying to elude Colorado State Patrol troopers on Interstate 70 near Clifton.
Their families said the teenagers only dated for a short time, but were a perfect match.
"We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the VonFeldt family," said the statement from Brock's parents, Vern and Marilyn Brock, and his two siblings, Kathryn and Weston. "We have truly enjoyed getting to known Jen and watching your beautiful sweet shy little girl make our Jake so happy. Jake was a joy to all who knew him for the 19 precious short years that we had him."
Dana Nunn, Mesa State College spokeswoman, said Kois was a first-semester freshman who enrolled in January.
"I remember her from new student orientation," Nunn said. "She had such a great smile, an incredible smile. (Brock) played on our hockey team, which is a club sport here."
Phyllis VonFeldt, Kois' grandmother, said the Brighton High School graduate had considered becoming a nurse.
"She never caused any trouble or anything, and she was so good to everyone," she said.
Brock, also a freshman, enrolled at the college in September, Nunn said. He graduated from Eagle Valley High School in Gypsum in 2006, and was considering sports medicine and physical therapy as a career, his family said.
