AFRICAN-AMERICAN HERITAGE RODEO
The National Western gets into the spirit of the holiday with the Martin Luther King Jr. African-American Heritage Rodeo at 6:30 p.m. today.
In addition to the rodeo competition, the event pays tribute to the history and contributions of black cowboys.
Tickets start at $11.
GIT ALONG LITTLE DOGGIES
The Superdogs aren't the only hounds in town. The celebrity mutts perform today and Tuesday, but the working stiffs will be in action later this week.
The cattle preliminaries of the stock dog trials get under way at 8 a.m. Friday in the stockyards, and the dog agility games convene at 6 p.m. in the Stadium Arena.
On Saturday, the stock dog cattle finals are set for 10 a.m. in the stockyards, and the stock dog sheep competition begins at 2 p.m. in the Stadium Arena. The dogs are back in the Stadium Arena for another round at 9 a.m. Sunday with the open sheep finals set for 2 p.m. that day.
CSU ANIMAL CHAMP
Robert D. Josserand, below, was honored at CSU Day at the stock show Saturday as the 2007 Livestock Leader.
The winner is chosen by faculty members of Colorado State's Department of Animal Sciences.
Winners of the annual award "have demon- strated leadership and furthered their field," according to a CSU news release.
Josserand was born in Pratt, Kan., and graduated from Colorado State in 1953 with a bachelor's degree in animal science.
He has worked in the cattle industry most of his life and is the chairman and owner of AzTx Cattle Co., which owns five cattle feedlots in Texas, Colorado and Kansas, with a combined capacity of about 232,000 head.
Josserand has been active in many industry organizations and also has served as mayor of Hereford, Texas - where he as lived since 1971 - since 1993.
