Like an unwelcomed guest, an Arctic blaster is headed this way and will refuse to leave.

Temperatures in the single digits and low teens will hit this evening and continue until Monday in the Denver area.

The National Weather Service is calling for partly cloudy skies with temperatures near 40 degrees today, but it says there is a chance of drizzle around 8 p.m. and then areas of snow and freezing drizzle past midnight.

The weather service also warns of areas of freezing fog after 8 p.m. with the wind chill dropping temperatures to around zero.

Less than an inch of snow is predicted.

Snow is likely tomorrow, mixed with freezing drizzle with areas of fog again. That cycle will continue through the weekend into Monday.

The Denver Office of Emergency Management has issued a bulletin asking citizens to prepare for the extreme temperatures, including working with family members, neighbors and caregivers to ensure everyone has the necessities of life as the cold snap drags on.

Also, be mindful of pets and keep them inside to secure and protect them from the cold.
