RTD will start shuttle service Friday between the County Line Road light rail station and the Park Meadows mall to address riders complaints that they cant easily get between the two.
The shuttle will run every 15 minutes and last for six weeks, through the holiday shopping season. RTD and Park Meadows will split the $80,000 cost of hiring Laidlaw Transit to operate the service.
The shuttle will pick up at the park-n-Ride on the east side of Interstate 25, where riders will have to walk from the station via a pedestrian bridge over the freeway. Two small buses will be used. They will operate from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 9 a.m. through 10 p.m. on Sundays.
The T-REX light rail line didnt include direct access because the mall originally wasnt annexed into the transit district, and the malls previous owners didnt want the connection.
A deal was worked out this month to have RTD build the pedestrian bridge, stairs and elevators that would enable riders to walk directly to the mall.
RTD would like to continue running the shuttle until the expected March 2008 opening of a direct pedestrian connection from the station to the mall, but Park Meadows wants to evaluate the service after the holidays before committing to the cost.
