Think of it as a gentle yet glaring reminder that the holiday season is here: The Denver City and County Building's lighted Christmas display switches on at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Early birds got a sneak preview Tuesday as crews tested the lights, and another round of tests is expected at 6 a.m. today.
Crews will add the final touches today, said Sarah Moss, spokeswoman for Mayor John Hickenlooper.
"It went well, and they found a couple of problems to correct. But it was nothing major," she said.
Crews started work on the display Oct. 1. They have strung about 2,000 spotlights and 2,000 feet of rope lights.
To conserve energy this year, the city is using light-emitting diodes, or LEDs, Moss said. LEDs also are used for the city's traffic signals.
The display will be on every night through the end of the National Western Stock Show, on Jan. 21.
The 9News Parade of Lights is scheduled for Dec. 1 and 2.
