A transgender woman from Arvada who said she was fired after she announced she planned to have sex-change surgery has reached a settlement with her former employer.

Danielle Cornwell, who lived most of her life as David, will return to work next month as part of a settlement with Intermountain Testing Company of Englewood, according to a statement released today by the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Center of Denver.

"All I've ever wanted to do was my job," Cornwell said. "I'm looking forward to returning to work at ITC and putting this behind me."

Attorneys for the Center's Legal Initiatives Project argued that ITC discriminated against Cornwell when it fired her last year. In September, the Colorado Civil Rights Division agreed.

ITC has maintained that Cornwell was terminated because business was down and the company needed to lay off staff. In the statement released today, ITC said business has picked up and the company is happy to have Cornwell back at work.

The other details of the settlement are confidential.
