Democratic Senate leader Harry Reid of Nevada has recommended Denver City Councilwoman Rosemary Rodriguez for a seat on the federal Election Assistance Commission.
"Her name has been recommended to the president," said Cody Wertz, communications director for Sen. Ken Salazar of Colorado. "Its up the president to nominate her and submit her name to the Senate."
Rodriguez, who is in Washington, D.C., declined to comment.
Wertz said Salazar thinks highly of Rodriguez, who has recently made headlines over her longtime support of creating an elected clerk and recorder position to oversee elections in Denver.
"Rosemary is a great friend and effective city councilwoman," Salazar said, in a statement read by Wertz. "Her experience working on election-related issues is second to none. If Rosemary were nominated, I would wholeheartedly support her nomination."
