The director of the performing arts programs in the Aspen School District turned himself in to authorities yesterday to face charges of sexual exploitation of a child, the Aspen Daily News reported this morning.

Bradford Rice Moore, 48, appeared in Pitkin County District Course yesterday and was released on a personal recognizance bond.

Bruce Benjamin, juvenile investigator for the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, told the newspaper an investigation began in September.

Officers executed a search warrant on his home and took a personnel computer that was sent to a forensics laboratory in Denver. Benjamin said the computer allegedly contained more than 150 images of females ranging in age between 5 and 16.

Benjamin said the images were not of local children and there is no indication Moore made advances toward any of the children on the Internet.

Moore, who was placed on leave by the school district, sits on the Aspen Community Theatre and Colorado Community Theatre Coalition boards.

He is president and co-founder of Aspen Stage and has acted in productions at the Aspen Community Theater.

Moore faces up to six years in prison if convicted of the Class 4 felony.
