Affiliated Computer Services is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of a computer stolen from its Denver office during the weekend of Oct. 14.
Since the theft is under investigation, neither the FBI nor CBI would indicate what was on the computer.
However, Texas television station KWTX reports the Dallas data processing company says personal information on as many as 1.4 million Coloradoans may have been compromised by the loss of the computer.
The data of at least 500,000 people who made child support payments to the state Department of Human Services may have been on the computer.
The TV station reports it also holds data on up to nearly a million newly hired people in Colorado.
ACS said it has notified hundreds of thousands of people about the theft but says authorities dont believe the thief was after personal data.
The FBI has set up a tipline at 800-CALL-FBI for any individual who
believes he or she may have information relevant to the computer theft
investigation.
