JEFFERSON COUNTY — Police have arrested a man for the 1989 killing of Lisa Kay Kelly, who remained unidentified until October of last year.

Billy Edwin Reid, 47, was arrested in May for another unsolved homicide, the death of a 28-year-old woman whose body was found in Clear Creek Canyon in October 1989.

When arrested, he was in Denver County Jail on unrelated charges.

Jefferson County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jacki Kelley said Reid’s name came up during a cold case investigation after he was charged earlier with first-degree murder and sexual assault of Lanell Williams, who was found in Clear Creek Canyon.

Kelly’s body was found March 24, 1989, near the Beaver Brook trailhead on Lookout Mountain.

Her identity wasn’t known and she was buried in the Golden cemetery as a "Jane Doe."

In October of last year, sheriff’s investigators resubmitted fingerprint evidence that lead to Kelly’s identification. Once they knew who she was, new information linked Reid to the Kelly slaying.

Metro-area homicide detectives are examining other evidence to try to determine whether Reid was involved in other similar cases.

Anyone with information regarding Reid or the two 1989 homicide cases is asked to call Jefferson County Sheriff’s Investigator Cheryl Moore at 303-271-5625.
