Creek dirty in Boulder

BOULDER - It's a good time to take a break from tubing in Boulder Creek.
Public health officials say they've found high bacteria levels in the creek as it flows through the city.
It probably is coming from storm water runoff, wildlife and pet waste, as well as upstream septic systems, says environmental health planner Lane Drager.
Boulder Creek isn't officially listed as a recreation area, but if the same levels of bacteria were present in Boulder Reservoir, it would be closed for swimming, officials say.
Swallowing water with high bacteria levels can cause fever, nausea and stomach cramps, and occasionally more serious ailments.
