Focus spends big on group

The political arm of Colorado Springs ministry Focus on the Family has given $500,000 to a new group it helped create to support two anti-gay marriage ballot measures, records show.
In late May, Focus on the Family Action helped establish Colorado Family Action Inc., which then created an issue committee. Focus has given two $250,000 contributions to the committee, according to secretary of state's filings. The family action committee spent $237,409 in late June on television commercial time in Denver and Colorado Springs, records show.
Focus Action has been the sole contributor to the new issue committee, who's registered agent is former Colorado U.S. Attorney Michael Norton.
There are family councils in 33 other states. The councils work on pro-life and pro-family issues through political activism and spending. These groups have also been critical players in the passage of state measures that effectively ban gay marriage.
The campaign commitee of the Colorado family council said its
purpose is to support a proposed constitutional amendment to define
marriage as a heterosexual union, and another measure that seeks to
prohibit legal recognition of domestic partnerships.
