ARVADA - Police are trying to determine if there are any Colorado victims of a former guitar teacher who is accused of traveling to Alaska two years ago to have sex with a 15-year-old girl.
"We don't know if there are any victims in the community," said Susan Medina, Arvada police spokeswoman.
Brock Jon Purviance, 30, of Arvada, was in federal custody Wednesday in Anchorage, Alaska.
Purviance faces a federal charge of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual contact.
A trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 6. If convicted, he faces a sentence of up to 30 years.
Purviance allegedly traveled to Alaska in August 2004 to have sex with a girl who was 15 at the time. He had met the girl through an online chat room, and had communicated with her through e-mail and by telephone before meeting her in Alaska, police said.
Arvada police said they fear that there may have been more victims, as Purviance had worked as a guitar teacher at Denver School of Music, 5275 Marshall St., in Arvada, and had contact with young people in the same age group as the girl in Alaska.
Anyone with information about the case should call Arvada police at 720-898-6900.
