Colorado Muslims to pray, rally today

A prominent U.S. Muslim activist will lead local Muslims in prayer and kick off a rally outside the Colorado Muslim Society in Denver today.
The prayer and rally are intended to help Muslims under attack by Israeli forces in Palestine and Lebanon.
The current conflict between Israeli forces and Hezbollah guerillas has claimed at least 261 lives in Lebanon and 34 in Israel.
Raeed Tayeh, who will lead todays event, is former head of the public relations office of the Muslim American Society, a national civil rights group. He also served as a speechwriter for Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, D-Georgia. His articles have appeared in major newspapers and magazines, and he has been a guest speaker on several radio and television programs including, "The O'Reilly Factor." Tayeh is also the author of "A Muslim's Guide to American Politics and Government."
Tayeh is expected to discuss the need for a fund for children in crisis and possibilities for peace in Palestine, Lebanon and Israel.
Other Denver-area Muslim leaders are scheduled to speak, including Colorado Muslim leader Issa Ashour and an American Lebanese woman who was recently evacuated from Beirut.
The prayer is scheduled to begin at 1:15 p.m., followed by a news conference at 2:15 p.m. outside the mosque at 2071 S. Parker Road.
The Colorado Muslin Society serves more than 15,000 Muslims in the Denver metro area.
