Auman released from halfway house

Tuesday, April 25, 2006

Lisl Auman, who once faced a prison sentence of life without parole for the death of a Denver police officer, has been released from a halfway house.

Auman left Tooley Hall within the past week, Denver Community Corrections assistant director Greg Mauro said Monday.

She will be continuously monitored for approximately eight more years, including home visits, employment verification and drug and alcohol testing. She may also be sent back to the halfway house for reasons that could range from failing a drug test to financial difficulties, Mauro said.

Auman entered Tooley Hall on Oct. 17 and was required to stay for at least six months before being allowed to live on her own.

Mauro could not verify the exact date of her release, but it comes just at or about that six-month mark.

Mauro said Auman must live in the metro area. He could not confirm that she is employed but said program members typically live on their own only if they have a job.

Auman's father, Don, declined to comment, citing the desire of his daughter to move to her new life without publicity.

Auman was handcuffed and in the back seat of a police car when a skinhead she had met the night before shot and killed Denver police officer Bruce VanderJagt. The skinhead, Matthaus Jaehnig, then killed himself.

A jury in 1998 found Auman guilty of felony murder, concluding that she took part in a felony - a burglary - that led to the officer's death.

What a sad and disgraceful day. Another criminal is released from prison for no good reason. Officer Vanderjagt lost his life serving the citizens, and now society spit on his grave by releasing this pathetic sub-human, Lisl Auman. Burn in Hell Lisl!

I had to register just to reply to Tee's outrageous comment. Society did not "spit" on Officer Vanderjagt's grave...give me a break. You sound like a total lunatic - calling for someone to "burn in hell"? Who's the sub-human here? Pot, kettle, black.

I hope Lisl is making up for lost time, enjoying her life! She paid her debt (for making a mistake in judgment - NOT murder) and should be allowed to live in peace.

My .02 to balance out Tee's craziness.
